Any misconceptions you have (and they definitely are misconceptions) about Vista are based upon bad press because of retail policies to install 32 bit windows on 64 bit machines as well as on awful machines that barely meet the minimum requirements. If you complainers were apt enough to build a suitable system and load a proper version of Vista you'd see it's excellent.
I've used Vista since day 1 and I've never had a single problem with it that wasn't easily attributable to hardware errors or operator error, or easily fixed. I assumed like everyone else you're jumping on the anti-Vista bandwagon.
Most people are screwed into Vista by Microsoft's packaging deals and the lack of Linux options, and now with the XP phase-out they're forced into it. They're being sold computers with the minimum hardware to run the OS and they're hating it because it runs like crap on a medium or low-end machine. I personally use 32-bit Vista Home Prem on a 8 year old pentium 4 machine with 768 mb ram and a terrible 6600GT AGP video card, and it runs horribly, 64-bit Ultimate on a Core 2 Duo laptop with only 2 gb of DDR2 and integrated Intel graphics, and a custom built watercooled system, 4GB DDR2 800mhz, Dual SLI 7950GT OC 512mb GDDR3s, 2 tb of space and an overclocked Pentium D 805, and I have never had any legitimate problems with the operating system. Sometimes you can't weed the people who know what they're talking about out of the crowd because they're singing the same tune, you know?
It's blatantly Vista and only people who don't use Vista wouldn't realize that.
Media Center, Sidebar, Aero theme, etc. For anyone who doesn't read, Windows 7 is not going to be like Vista.
